Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

Welcome to week 2! Last week our tamariki really enjoyed our Badminton and Tennis skills sessions. Badminton sessions are run by Shuttle Time New Zealand in the hall on Wednesday mornings. Please help your tamaiti (child) to remember to bring appropriate footwear for these sessions. These sessions will run for the first four week of the term.

With the weather still a bit hit or miss, we ask those students who are keen to get out for a kick around (when the fields are open) to bring a spare change of clothes. We love to see our akonga enjoying the fresh air - but it can sometimes result in muddy and uncomfortable afternoons!

Our Library day has changed this term to Wednesdays. This allows us to work in with Badminton and Tennis sessions on the Wednesday morning and minimise disruptions to our POD programme.

The Navigator Centre are running our Whakarongo School Assembly this week. Assembly starts at 2:15pm in the hall. Crazy Hair Day is to be held on Thursday 9th August (week 3). Please bring a gold coin donation to support KidsCan on this day.

For our Conceptual Curriculum unit this term we are looking at ‘Technological Advances’. To provide another level of hands-on-learning, we are keen to set up a tinkering station. If you have any old technology lying around that you DO NOT WANT BACK, please send this into school so we can take it apart and investigate what technology is inside!

Alternatively, if you have an example of old technology that has since evolved, we would love to see this also! (These items will not be pulled apart!). It is great for our ākonga (learners) to see real life examples and relate to past technological items!

This week the homework consists of students having conversations at home with parents/grandparents about a piece of technology that is now not around anymore or has been superseded by something more modern.

For those students who would like extra homework, there is basic facts and spelling homework available on the blog for students to access, alongside with Chapter Chat activities.

There will be no Assembly this week, but CRE will start back this Friday.

There will be no homework set this week as we ease our students back into school :) However, there is basic facts, spelling homework and Chapter Activities are available on the blog for students to access.

Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

What a fantastic time we had on Wednesday sharing the creative work of our ākongo at Learning Celebration. Thank you to the whānau that came in - and for those of you who were unable to make it don’t forget to ask your taitamaiti (child) to share at home!

This week we are lucky to have two guest speakers coming in. Anna, from World Vision, to extend our understanding of Famine throughout the wider world, and Daniel - an ex-Whakarongo student. He is coming to talk to us about Sport and Nutrition.

Kiwi Competitions - This week we have the English Competition on Tuesday and any catch up’s for those who have missed previous tests will be on Wednesday. Please ensure students come to school with their devices charged for the day.

PTA Lunch will be delivered on Wednesday 4th July. Orders are closed for this already. Order forms for PTA Pies will go home tomorrow. If you need more forms, please talk to Caroline in the office. 2018 Reading Challenge - Whakarongo School are taking part in the Hell’s Pizza Reading Challenge. This is a great initiative to encourage children to read more. To check it out go along to our library blog. Let the reading begin!

Badge Assembly will be held on Thursday at 11:30am . All whānau are welcome to come and celebrate the successes of our tamariki.

School finishes on Friday at 2pm - please ensure you have made arrangements for your children to be picked up early on this day.

This week we farewell the Explorer as our Chapter Chat novel. It has been great to see all the fantastic work coming in from our tamariki. This will be our last week of independent tasks for homework for the term. These have been shared with our tamariki and are available on the blog. Please find the questions for the last Kahoot below.

As a final note, we have had a fantastic Term in Kahurangi. We have seen our students continue to develop a sense of community and grow as Whakarongo Kids. We continue to be impressed with their creativity and innovation and look forward continuing their learning journey to next term!

We hope you all enjoy a well deserved break with your whānau.
