Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

Congratulations to all of our students who took part in swimming sports this week for both competitive and non-competitive events. We had a great time, and enjoyed seeing our students give it their all. Congratulations for those students who have been nominated to take part in the Inter-school Swimming team. Information has been sent home for those students participating. If the forms have not yet been returned, please ensure they are returned by Tuesday Morning.

Week Nine looks set to be another exciting one with the introduction of our ‘Power of Water’ conceptual curriculum rotations. We look forward to further exploring water in the world around us and the impact our actions have on the environment. We will also be creating innovative solutions to problems in our environment by applying our STEM knowledge. It should be very informative and a lot of fun! For part of our Literacy programme this week our students will be using the Flipgrid app. Can you please ensure that they have these loaded and ready to go - it will be a fun one to use!

This week we will also be carrying out some STEM activities that require some supplies. If you have any clean, waterproof recycling (cotton reels, ice cream containers, plastic bottles etc) can you please send these in ASAP! This would be much appreciated and we will ensure that all plastics are disposed of responsibly!

This week’s homework is set around further celebrating our learning. With learning plans being sent home and meeting with parents this week we thought it was a great time for our tamariki to further discuss their achievements and goals with whānau at home. Please take the time to share in their Seesaw blogs, leaving comments to encourage and support them and look over the homework for this week together.

Wednesday swimming at Ashhurst will resume this week. This is a compulsory part of the curriculum. Please help your child in remembering to bring their togs. If your child is unable to attend a session, please notify a homeroom teacher.

Some of our Year 5/6 Gate students will be competing in the Epro8 Challenge on Wednesday morning. This is to be held at College Street School with students leaving school at 8.50am and returning around 12.45pm. We wish these students the best of luck!

Parent-Teacher interviews are running from Monday to Wednesday. Bookings are now closed. If you have any concerns or queries and have not been able to book an interview time, please contact your child’s pouako directly.

School will be closed for Good Friday - we hope you and your whānau enjoy a well deserved long weekend over the Easter Break! We look forward to seeing all our Tamariki again on Wednesday of week 10 and hearing about their fantastic Easter adventures.

Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

This week has seen some enthusiastic students engaging in STEM exploration and showcasing their Ōku Tūrangawaewae where in the world presentations. It was fantastic to see our students supporting each other and celebrating each other’s learning. This week we are shifting our focus to ‘The Power of Water’. We start this week with engaging activities to spark interest and create wonderings in our learners. Next week we will start rotations where we further explore water through inquiry and STEM exploration.

Our homework this week will support our exploration week and take a look at the ‘World Water Day’ website. You can find this attached below and on the blog.

Good luck to all our tamariki who are participating in the Weetbix Triathlon tomorrow. Please make sure your child’s pouako is aware if your child is participating in the triathlon for role purposes.

We have finalised the arrangements for an alternative swimming sports programme. This will take part instead of the usual programme Please find details attached below.

Wheels Day is rescheduled for this Friday this week. Students, please bring along your favourite set of wheels and join in! You can store your wheels on the field where there will be a designated section marked off.

All students, and parents, should now be connected to Seesaw Learning Blogs. We will be setting up our seesaw accounts this week. If you are not yet connected, please email your child’s pouako and they can assist you with this. Students are starting to post their amazing work, and we are starting to see whānau comment on posts. This helps to strengthen home-school partnerships and is great for building students pride in their learning so keep it up!

Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

Week Seven is here! This Term is flying by, and it is fantastic to see our Tāmariki enthusiastic and engaged in their learning. We have extended our time on Ōku Tūrangawaewae as our innovative students are doing a fantastic job of showcasing their learning in creative ways.

Next week we will be starting our first conceptual curriculum topic, which focuses on the natural resource Water. This will have links throughout curriculum areas and a focus on Science and STEM. To lead up to this we will be carrying out STEM exploration later in the week.

This week’s homework is set to support our STEM focus, activate prior knowledge and ignite their passion. You can find this on the blog, and attached below. We resume Wednesday swimming at Ashhurst this week. This is a compulsory part of the curriculum. Please help your child in remembering to bring their togs. If your child is unable to attend a session, please notify a homeroom teacher.

Unfortunately the cancellation of swimming sports last week meant our students did not get to showcase their swimming talents. We are currently formulating a plan to allow the competitive events to run and will keep you informed as the plan develops.

Inter-School Tryathlon is on Wednesday. We wish those competing the best!

Entries for the Weetbix Tryathlon close tonight. If your tamariki is interested in taking part in this event, click on this link to register. This is not a school-run event. Students need to enter individually and have parent transport and support for the event.

Parent-Teacher interviews are running in Week 9 from Monday to Wednesday. Bookings are now available to book online. Please visit the School Interviews website to make a booking from Thursday this week onwards. If you have any problems booking online, please contact your Pouako.

Next week we will start exploring innovative solutions throughout various STEM challenges. Our students are now connected and ready to share their learning with their whānau through Seesaw.

Unfortunately we have had issues with our printing system. As soon as we are able to, we will send home printed QR codes so you can connect with your child’s learning blog. Families will need to download the Seesaw Family App to allow them to view their child’s learning journal.
