Senior Swimming Sports

Rātaka o te wiki - Wiki Rima

Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

We have been working hard in our Ōku Tūrangawaewae rotations in class this term. This week will be looking more closely at New Zealand’s culture as well as the culture of others throughout the world. For homework this week we will be asking students to spend their time completing work from in class Ōku Tūangawaewae rotations and homework tasks. We also encourage students to share what they have created and learnt with family at home.

Homework tasks can be found under the Mahi Kāinga - Homework tab on the blog.
In class rotation finishing includes:
Whakarongo Kid Statements
Whakarongo Kid Posters
Mana Enhancing Posters
Family Crests

Kahurangi POD will be hosting School Assembly this week. We welcome all whānau to come and celebrate our learning with us. We will be starting at 2:15 - see you there!

CRE will commence again this Friday 2nd March. If you wish to have your child excused from these classes you will need to put this in writing and send this through to cdurham@whakarongo.school.nz. For those parents who opted out last year, the request has been carried over to this year.

Senior Swimming Sports for our Year 5-8 students is fast approaching. This event is set for Thursday 8th March 2017 at the Makino Aquatic Centre in Feilding. Our Senior Swimming Sports will comprise of two events; competitive and fun, non-competitive events. This means that all of our Year 5-8 students, from the Kahurangi Pod, Navigator Centre and the Year 5’s from Haepapa will participate.

Wednesday swimming at Ashhurst will continue this week. This is a compulsory part of the curriculum. Please help your child in remembering to bring their togs. If your child is unable to attend a session, please notify a homeroom teacher.

We will be having our first house meeting this Wednesday Afternoon. We look forward to seeing our new House Leaders and council members run these this week!

We will be setting up our seesaw accounts this week. Please make sure your child has the app downloaded to allow them to share their learning with you at home. Once the app is installed we will run through the set up with the tamariki in class. Students will need to download the Seesaw Class App - families will need to download the Seesaw Family App to allow them to view their child’s learning journal.

We are looking forward to another fantastic week! Hope to see you on Friday.

Ngā Mihi,
Kahurangi Pouako

Kia Ora Koutou,

Thank you to all those families who supported our Tamariki in bringing their taonga to school today. It has been fantastic to see our students family treasures. We will have further opportunities to share throughout the week and look forward to seeing more wonderful taonga and discovering their significance to your whānau.

For this weeks homework we will be continuing with our Ōku †ūrangawaewae focus. Please take the time to look over this (attached below and available on the blog) with your child as they are looking to find out more about you!

There will be no School Assembly or CRE this week. CRE will commence again on Friday 2nd March 9.00 - 9.30am. If you wish to have your child excused from these classes you will need to put this in writing to durham@whakarongo.school.nz. For those parents who opted out last year, the request has been carried over to this year.

Rātaka o te wiki - Wiki Toru

Kia Ora Koutou,

Another fabulous week in the Kahurangi POD, with students showcasing their creative side with our wonderful graffiti wall - come and check it out!

We would like to welcome Damon to the Kahurangi POD. We are lucky to have him working with us to support our tamariki in their learning journeys.

There is a different lunchtime club each day and students can join clubs this week.
• Monday - Graphic Design (Ms Matangi)
• Tuesday - Robotics (Mr Mildenhall)
• Wednesday - Literary Quiz (Mrs Thompson)
 • Thursday - IT Techie Training (Mrs Hornell)
• Friday - Garden Club (Mrs Mayston & Mrs Cobham)

Swimming at Ashhurst will continue on Wednesday. Please ensure your child has appropriate swimwear and is at school before the 9am bell as we will depart immediately after roll. We will be offering an optional swim at lunchtime on Friday for those who would like to participate.

Chapter Chat will start this week. Please ensure students have downloaded the Twitter app to allow them to connect with learners in other schools who are also participating in the Chapter Chat. This will allow them to share their learning with a wider audience, and participate in reflective conversations about the text we are reading. Students are engaging in discussions around appropriate use of Twitter, and the feed is monitored by our Pouako.

We have seen some fantastic work come in from our Ōku Tūrangawaewae homework. As we are displaying these throughout Kahurangi, we would love all of our students to complete this task. It is not compulsory, but if your tamariki would still like to complete their loop they are welcome to bring that in this week. Please find this on the Mahi Kāinga tab.

This weeks homework is centred around sharing Taonga, or a special family treasure. We will share these next Monday morning. We know some treasures are very precious and best left at home. If this is the case, an image of the treasure might be a safe option for sharing. Please find this on the Mahi Kāinga tab.
