Rātaka ō te Wiki - Wiki Iwa

Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

Congratulations to all of our students who took part in swimming sports this week for both competitive and non-competitive events. We had a great time, and enjoyed seeing our students give it their all. Congratulations for those students who have been nominated to take part in the Inter-school Swimming team. Information has been sent home for those students participating. If the forms have not yet been returned, please ensure they are returned by Tuesday Morning.

Week Nine looks set to be another exciting one with the introduction of our ‘Power of Water’ conceptual curriculum rotations. We look forward to further exploring water in the world around us and the impact our actions have on the environment. We will also be creating innovative solutions to problems in our environment by applying our STEM knowledge. It should be very informative and a lot of fun! For part of our Literacy programme this week our students will be using the Flipgrid app. Can you please ensure that they have these loaded and ready to go - it will be a fun one to use!

This week we will also be carrying out some STEM activities that require some supplies. If you have any clean, waterproof recycling (cotton reels, ice cream containers, plastic bottles etc) can you please send these in ASAP! This would be much appreciated and we will ensure that all plastics are disposed of responsibly!

This week’s homework is set around further celebrating our learning. With learning plans being sent home and meeting with parents this week we thought it was a great time for our tamariki to further discuss their achievements and goals with whānau at home. Please take the time to share in their Seesaw blogs, leaving comments to encourage and support them and look over the homework for this week together.

Wednesday swimming at Ashhurst will resume this week. This is a compulsory part of the curriculum. Please help your child in remembering to bring their togs. If your child is unable to attend a session, please notify a homeroom teacher.

Some of our Year 5/6 Gate students will be competing in the Epro8 Challenge on Wednesday morning. This is to be held at College Street School with students leaving school at 8.50am and returning around 12.45pm. We wish these students the best of luck!

Parent-Teacher interviews are running from Monday to Wednesday. Bookings are now closed. If you have any concerns or queries and have not been able to book an interview time, please contact your child’s pouako directly.

School will be closed for Good Friday - we hope you and your whānau enjoy a well deserved long weekend over the Easter Break! We look forward to seeing all our Tamariki again on Wednesday of week 10 and hearing about their fantastic Easter adventures.

Ngā Mihi, Kahurangi Pouako
