Rātaka ō te wiki - Wiki Whitu

Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

Wow - this term is just racing by and this week is set to be another busy one. It’s fantastic to see our students still so engaged in their learning, putting in the mahi right up until the end and doing an amazing job of it!

This week the big ones are…

Prizegiving will take place this evening! Students need to wear school uniform and will be seated with their PODs at the front of the theatre. All students need to be seated by 6:50pm so we can start on time. Normally prizegiving will be done by 8:30pm.

Kapa Haka performers will need to meet at the back of the Regent at 6:15pm. We are hoping to have a little run through in our changing rooms at 6:30 pm with the prizegiving starting at 7:00pm. Students will have their kapa haka uniforms with them, if possible could they please come in them and remember to bring their school uniform to change into afterwards. Some students will have the blue borrowed uniforms that need to be pinned at the back, if this can't be done then Mr Hobbs will have safety pins with him.

Prizegiving is an opportunity to acknowledge student achievements throughout the year and showcase the talents of the performers. However, please be aware that not everyone can be recognised for their wonderful efforts and achievements. As a pod, we only present 7 certificates to students. Therefore, although we congratulate those who do receive certificates or are chosen to represent the student council, our students should all be proud of their efforts and contributions this year.

This week for our Canvas for Change Conceptual Curriculum unit we will be further exploring how we can convey a message using the arts. We have looked at various social issues over the past few weeks, and have explored different art forms that we may like to use this week. We can’t wait to see what creative ideas our ākonga come up with! It would be a great opportunity this week for whānau to talk with their tamaiti (child) about their ideas so they can bounce ideas around!

Inter school athletics will take place this Wednesday. We wish those taking part all the best - we know you will do amazing! Thanks to those parents who have been able to offer assistance and transport on the day. Those participating please make sure you are here by 8:45am. Uniforms need to be washed after the event and returned ASAP to allow them to be accounted for and organised before the end of the year.

This week will be the final CRE for the year.

As always, there are basic facts and spelling on blog for those who would like to extend themselves at home. Chapter Chat activities for Gangsta Granny are also available on the Kahurangi Blog. We have been receiving some wonderful work that we are proudly showcasing in our pod!

Ngā Mihi,
Kahurangi Pouako
