Rātaka ō te wiki - Wiki Ono

Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

Wow - so much to celebrate from the last week! Thank you to all those parents who were able to join us in celebrating our learning at assembly on Friday. Not only did Kahurangi show panekiretanga (excellence) and auahatanga (creativity) in our learning, but our Kapa Haka Rōpu Teina impressed us by showing wairua (spirit) with their beautiful waiata and fierce haka! Ka rawe koutou! For those of you who were unable to make it, please check out our video about Technological Advances on seesaw - we had many great people share their ideas about the mahi (work) we have been doing this term.

This week we will continue to explore robotics using the Sphero’s and Lego WeDo sets this week. Please make sure that your tamaiti (child) has the appropriate apps on their iPads needed to run these robotics. They require Sphero and Sphero Edu, as well as WeDo 2.0

Our year 6 representatives for the Super 10 competition will be playing tomorrow. We wish them all the best - they have been training hard and we are sure they will have a fabulous experience tomorrow!

Also this week, our TOM - Tournament of the Minds - team will be putting all their practice into action and showcasing their talents this Saturday at the Tournament of the Minds competition. Kia Kaha guys (be strong, get stuck in!) - we know you are ready for this!

The Whakarongo School Intermediate Years Open Night will be held on Wednesday, 5th September from 5:30-7pm in the Navigator Centre.

Senior Winter House Sports will be held on Tuesday 11th September from 9:30am-2:30pm. Our last Badminton Skills sessions will be held this Wednesday. It has been great to see the progress our students have made over the four sessions, and how engaged they have been.

House Waiata practices will be held on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:30 in preparation for the house waiata competition in Week 10. We hope our tamariki are treating you to a performance or two at home while practicing!

Pita Pit will now be available on FRIDAY’S ONLY! They will no longer be delivering lunches on a Tuesday.

This week our students will start preparing for Learning Conferences, which will be held in week 9. We look forward to having your tamaiti (child) share their learning with you. We will update you with more details once online bookings open.

Last week we set some homework to prepare our ākonga (learners) for our in class learning by asking them to be ‘problem seekers’ and identifying problems in our lives that we can solve. We have not had a great response to this so far - It would be great if you could spend some time talking with your tamaiti (child) about things in our world that we could improve / solve to ignite ideas for them to work on in class! For this reason, the homework will remain the same for this week.

As always, for those students who would like extra homework, there is basic facts and spelling homework available on the blog for students to access, alongside with Chapter Chat activities.

Ngā Mihi,
Kahurangi Pouako
