Rātaka ō te wiki - Wiki Rimu

Kia Ora whānau rāua tamariki,

This term seems to be going far too quickly! Week 5 is already here - and as always there are a few exciting opportunities for our ākonga (learners) to showcase their many talents this week. Assembly, Super 10 trials, Robotics exploration and innovating solutions to problems in our lives are a few of the activities on this week!

Firstly, a big thank you for your support and understanding for the teachers strike last Wednesday. It was great to feel the tautoko (support) from our community - but even better to be back in the classroom on Thursday with your tamariki (children) doing what we love!

Kahurangi is proud to be hosting Assembly this Friday, and proud to offer our Kapa Haka Teina group (Year 5 Kapa Haka group) the opportunity to perform as a part of this! We would love to see our whānau there celebrating our learning with us from 2:15pm.

We will be exploring robotics using the Sphero’s and Lego WeDo sets this week. Please make sure that your tamaiti (child) has the appropriate apps on their iPads needed to run these robotics. They require Sphero and Sphero Edu, as well as WeDo 2.0

Due to another team being unable to attend the Super 10 competition, we are lucky to have the opportunity to enter a Year 6 football team. We had LOADS of interest in being a part of this team - and it was tough to narrow it down with all the keen and talented soccer players in Kahurangi! We have selected the team and notices regarding this tournament will be sent home tomorrow. We would like to thank all students who trialled. Also a HUGE thank you to Phil Riley for supporting our players and coaching the team.

Our Badminton Skills sessions have not been rescheduled. We had our third session on Friday, and our last session will be held next Wednesday, 29th September.

House Meetings will be held this Thursday afternoon. Pita Pit will now be available on FRIDAY’S ONLY! They will no longer be delivering lunches on a Tuesday.

Thanks to those of you who have brought in some items for our ‘Tinker Station’. Our students are keen to explore what they are made up of and how they work! If you have any other items that you do NOT need back that our students can dismantle and explore, please send them in!

Homework this week is for out ākonga (learners) to talk with whānau to seek some ‘problems’ in our worlds that we can that innovate solutions to in class. It would be great if you could spend some time talking with your tamaiti (child) about things in our world that we could improve / solve to ignite ideas for them to work on in class!

For those students who would like extra homework, there is basic facts and spelling homework available on the blog for students to access, alongside with Chapter Chat activities.

Ngā Mihi,
Kahurangi Pouako
